Is PS Vita Compatible with Other PlayStation Formats?

You would not want to stop playing your favorite old games when you get the new handheld gaming system by Sony. That is why it is natural to ask: is PS Vita compatible with other PlayStation formats? The answer to this question requires more extended explanation. You have to know what you will be able to enjoy, when and how.

According to the official statement made by Sony, users of the new PlayStation Vita will be able to play PlayStation Portable games, minis and PS One classic games on it. You can readily get any previously released title from the official PS store and it should work with the new handheld console. One thing to note is that PS One titles were not compatible with the system immediately after its release in Japan. Hopefully, this problem will not exist when the handheld console is launched in the US, Canada, Europe and the rest of the world.

You will be able to play PlayStation 3 games on PS Vita. This has been officially confirmed by the company. In fact, the PS3 compatibility is presented as one of the major features of the new PS console.

How is this going to work? There is no great clarity at the moment, but it is thought that Sony will release firmware update for PS3 which will allow for connectivity between the handheld console and the one of the PS3. There are rumors that gamers will be able to play the PS3 games on the PS Vista in PSP resolution.

This is a little bit disappointing given the fact that the latest portable console has a resolution of 960 x 544 pixels while its predecessor has just 480 x 272 pixel resolution. Still, we will have to wait and see what the quality of the PS3 games on the new handheld console will be. We may be pleasantly surprised. After all, Sony will do their best to make PS Vista as versatile as possible given its superb new software and hardware.

One exciting thing about the cross play feature of PS Vita is that it allows you to enjoy multiplayer games via the console even if the other participants play using the PS3 system. This certainly opens up the doors to a new world of gaming entertainment even more widely. We will see how this particular option will be used by gamers once the portable system is released.

Now all that you have to do is to choose games for your new PS Vita.
